Manatee Updates
manatee Name: New Bay

Released:
February 2004

Biography: New Bay is a young adult female manatee who was found suffering from cold stress in December 2002 in Bayboro Harbor in St. Petersburg. She was rescued and brought to Lowry Park Zoo for treatment. New Bay will be monitored by the MRP because scientists want to make sure that she learns where she needs to go during the winter to find warm water. She was released with Salvador and De Soto at TECO Big Bend power plant in Apollo Beach on 2/26/04.

Field Notes:

New Bay already lost her tag and is no longer being tracked. A citizen of Apollo Beach found the gear and returned it to the MRP.
