Biography: Kennedy was rescued for cold stress from Titusville in Brevard County, Florida, on January 26, 2008.  At that point he was 197 cm long and weighed 309 lbs.  Kennedy was rehabilitated at SeaWorld in Orlando, Florida, and then released on January 27, 2009, in Brevard County, Florida.  He was rescued again from Doctor's Lake in Middleburg, Clay County, Florida, on February 21, 2009, for cold stress and brought back to SeaWorld in Orlando. He weighed 580 lbs and measured 235 cm long upon his second rescue.  Kennedy was re-released back into the wild into Brevard County on February 8, 2010.  He weighed 825 lbs and was 259 cm long on the day of his release.

Field Notes:

2/09/10-2
/15/10:   Kennedy was released on Monday, 2/08/10, in Melbourne, FL, by SeaWorld of Orlando, FWC, and Sea to Shore Alliance.  Almost immediately he began milling eastward out of the canal.  He began traveling north that evening and by Tuesday, 2/09/10, had reached FPL Cape Canaveral power plant.  He has remained there since then, benefiting from its warm water plumes.

4/20/10-4/27/10: Kennedy continues to move around the area in the northernmost part of Indian River.

4/13/10-4/19/10: Kennedy was in the northernmost part of Indian River this week, again going up into the small creek at the northernmost point of the river and into the surrounding areas by Onion Farm Island.

2/16/10-2/28/10:
  Kennedy has remained near Cape Canaveral power plant this week.

3/01/10-3/08/10 :  Kennedy was observed at the Cape Canaveral power plant on Wednesday, 3/03/10, milling, socializing, and traveling around #2 discharge. 

3/09/10-3/15/10:  Kennedy traveled south to Indian River on Wednesday, 3/10/10, returning to the Cape Canaveral power plant on Saturday, 3/13/10, and heading back south to Indian River on Sunday, 3/14/10.

3/09/10-3/15/10:

4/20/10-4/27/10: Kennedy continues to move around the area in the northernmost part of Indian River.

4/13/10-4/19/10: Kennedy was in the northernmost part of Indian River this week, again going up into the small creek at the northernmost point of the river and into the surrounding areas by Onion Farm Island.

3/16/10-3/23/10: Kennedy was observed in the Cape Canaveral power plant discharge on Wednesday, 3/17/10.  At least 100 animals were in the discharge.  Kennedy was bottom-resting.

 

3/24/10-3/31/10: Kennedy has moved north along the coast of Indian River this week and is now north of Cape Canaveral FPL power plant.

 

4/01/10-4/06/10: Kennedy was observed on Friday, 4/02/10, along the western coast of Indian River within a slow zone with 5 other animals.  From our observations Kennedy appeared in good condition.  He and the others were responsive to the boat and the animals traveled actively around the area, following each other.

 

4/07/10-4/12/10: Kennedy continued north this week to the northernmost part of Indian River, into the small creek north of Onion Farm Island.
