Pine and Forest: (click on links for animal updates)
Pine and Forest (both females) were both rescued from the Ortega River (Duval
County-Jacksonville) on 1/11/02. Pine was 232cm long and weighed 580 lbs. Forest was 282cm long and weighed 505 lbs. Both were rescued due to cold stress. They were taken
to SeaWorld for treatment. On 7/29/02, both animals were transferred to Walt
Disney World's-Living Seas.
Upon release at Blue Springs, Pine was 262cm long and weighed 950 lbs; Forest was 254cm long and weighed 790 lbs. Pine was
freeze branded with the number 11 and Forest with the number 13. Both received one freeze brand between the shoulders and one
near the paddle. Each manatee was equipped with a tag.
Both Pine and Forest have lost their tags but are presumed to be alive and well. Pine was recently sighted at her release area of Blue Springs State Park.
