Data Maps

Since the project's start in November 1997, the locations of the manatees have been plotted on maps by the team scientists. Since February 1998 the manatees tagged with PTTs have been plotted on this webpage. The maps represent an area of about 14 by 10 miles, and are centered near the tagging site in South Lagoon (near Gales Point), Belize.

The scientists are interested in comparing the movements of the male and female manatees. For example: Do the manatees venture out of the lagoon into the coastal waters? Do the male and female visit nearby rivers? Do the male and female occupy the same size home range?

These data maps help the scientists to answer their research questions:

Current Data - 2001/2002

Last Location for All Manatees

Daily Locations for All Manatees

These maps are updated frequently, so check back often to follow your favorite manatee! As the project develops, the scientists expect to add new kinds of data maps and graphical analyses of dive information.
